Pamela K Orgeronabout this book: With Food as an Idol: Finding Freedom from Disordered Eating the author's best-selling book and with more readers expressing an interest in the book, her initial plan was to make the book available as an e-book. However, God had other plans.
When Orgeron began having thoughts of how useful the information contained in Food as an Idol would be to health and psychology teachers, as well as homeschoolers, she couldn't resist the challenge to make the book classroom friendly. Thus, the idea for the new revised Food as an Idol, with a new subtitle, The Types, Causes, Consequences, Conquering, and Prevention of Disordered Eating, was birthed. To make the book classroom friendly, Orgeron's initial plan was to add an index and a glossary. However, seeing how the current trend for textbooks is not to include a glossary but to include any terms or concepts appropriate for a glossary in the index with the page number of the definition given there.
While compiling the index, Orgeron remembered how helpful textbooks she used in her high school and college years were whenever the authors included key terms and questions at the end of each chapter. Thus, she decided to add at the end of each chapter of Food as an Idol a list of Key Terms and Questions for Reflection.
Are there other changes to the new Food as an Idol book? Yes, when Orgeron kept thinking about how many more sexual abuse crimes are being reported by the media than when she first wrote Food as an Idol a few years ago, she believed she would be remiss to not include more information linking sexual abuse and disordered eating. Thus, a new chapter, Linking Disordered Eating with Sexual Abuse, was added to the Special Topics section of the book.
With the previously discussed resources added to Food as an Idol, Orgeron believes this book will touch many more lives in fighting the epidemic of disordered eating in America and around the world. Food as an Idol: The Types, Causes, Consequences, Conquering, and Prevention of Disordered Eating is now available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and at local bookstores, upon request.
