Elise Loweabout this book: I wrote "Samson and the Little Bird" in the same week that I wrote two of my other children's books, "Presley the White Peacock" and "Enthusiastic Annabel." I'd just completed an early draft of an adult novella, which I thought of as a book for me and my friends, and was keen to write something for my son and his friends.
After my little boy approved the stories, I asked Julian Thomas to illustrate the three books. He always manages to bring my characters to life with his beautiful art work, and it's so exciting for me (and my son) when he emails over each new illustration.
Samson's character was born out of the idea of an angry playground bully except, in this story, he's the bad tempered bull, who dominates the field and ruins everyone else's fun. The only animal brave enough to stand up to Samson is a small bird. In a brains versus brawn battle, it is the clever little bird who finally persuades Samson to change his ways.
