J.Z. Pinderabout this book: There is an old saying that "truth is stranger than fiction." Actually, much of this story actually happened to my new wife and I when we went to Havana in the first year of the 1959-60 Cuban revolution which brought Fidel Castro to power. It was an exciting time for us. The party and the bombings actually occurred. A lot of the rest of the story is a mixture of truth and fiction.
Larry and Annette are very much in love and are deep sea fishing off Key West when they decide to go to Cuba. It is the year 1959. Upon arriving in Cuba they are astonished to find a heavy military presence at the airport. After checking into their hotel in Havana they find that it is overrun with armed soldiers. They meet a young American couple who inform them they have flown into the aftermath of a revolution. There are still random bombings in the city. That evening the four young Americans visit the famous Sloppy Joe's bar in old Havana. While there, Larry invites a handful of Cuban soldiers to a party in his hotel room the next evening. The exciting, sometimes violent, events that occur at the party and thereafter make this story a must read.
