Tom Imminsabout this book: Czech Mate is the 2nd book in the Sam Lucas series of thrillers. In the 1st book called 'No Write To Die' Sam's wife is killed in an hit and run accident, the story centres on his quest to find the truth.
Czech Mate takes Sam forward to how his life has moved on but still shows the scars left from the tragedy of the 1st book. In Czech Mate, he is befriended by a girl in trouble, she arrives in the quiet village of Glidon as an au-pair, she confides in Sam, telling dark secrets and asking for his help. Before he can do any good, 2 murders take place and the girl disappears. Sam's search for the girl takes him to Prague and the South of France, with devastating consequences. Along the way he meets DCI Terry Long, another who hides dark secrets from his past but someone who Sam comes to rely on. The fast paced book comes to a shocking finale, when Sam's life is on the line, but the reason is not business it's personal.
My inspiration for my books is to create a everyday character, not a super-hero, not a Jason Bourne or a James Bond but an average guy in the street who suffers, feels pain and does the right thing.
The Title of the 2nd book was a kind of play on words, simple as.
My covers are always provocative, usually involving pretty girls or sexy femme fatales. I love the golden era of crime novels with their wonderful lurid dustwrappers.
I always research for my books especially if it involves specific years or foreign places, to me its a must.
I am learning my craft all the time, I don't pretend to be a Shakespeare or a Dickens, I want my readers to grab some kind of an emotion from my novels whether its happiness, sadness or merely a gasp.
