John Mayerabout this book: The character of Brogan McLane is central to The Parliament house Books series. This is Book Five, but can easily be read as a stand alone.
McLane is a fiercely intelligent man who grew up in the harsh streets of Glasgow, but fought his way through challenge after challenge to enter the hallowed halls of Parliament house in Edinburgh, to the high office of Advocate in the Supreme Courts of Scotland. His deeply held sense of right and wrong does not however find the natural home he expected when he studied the law for so many years. Instead, he often finds people who value their own social status and position on the career ladder to the House of Lords more than doing right by their clients.
These books can be classified as mystery, crime or thrillers.
In The House, McLane finds himself forced to try and save his beloved home community in Glasgow, the Calton, from demolition by an as yet unknown enemy.
