J. Conradabout this book: Blood Red Winter is a thriller novel set in Georgetown, Texas. The title was inspired by the strong murder mystery element of the story, coupled with the fact that it rarely snows in Central Texas. I had to do a bit of research on police and forensics procedure, since the Williamson County Sheriff's Office plays a major role after Trent discovers a gruesome crime in an abandoned house on County Road 118.
Probably the hardest thing about writing this book was not over-complicating the main character, Trent. He was my first-ever male main character. I wrote in first person from Trent's point of view, and no matter how much my subconscious screamed at me to over-complicate him, I didn't give in. This was the only difficult thing about writing Blood Red Winter. The plot did the rest.
I chose Georgetown, Texas, as the location for the story because I used to live there, so it's a place I'm familiar with and appreciate. The rural countryside provides an ideal setting for this type of novel. The area where Trent resides is actually outside the city limits, which is why the sheriff's office becomes involved instead of the Georgetown Police Department.
Readers who like action, lots of twists, and a good backstory will enjoy this book.
