Perry Kincaidabout this book: "Scoop of Lies" is a novel born of my many years working as a small-town journalist. If you haven't worked at a newspaper in a rural area, it is truly an undertaking like no other. Actual situations inspired many of the events in the novel.
Working in the news media, I often wondered about the nature of truth. There have been several occurrences in the past of journalists embellishing the truth to make their stories or photos more interesting to the reader. The entire industry changed in the 2000s with the popularity of blogs and social media. Newspapers of old had to adapt or die, leading to the closure of many papers and the eliminations of jobs. How far would reporters and photographers willing to exaggerate the truth go to save their job? Would they break the law to increase their chances at surviving the next round of layoffs?
That is the reasons for me writing "Scoop of Lies." As I told a friend, it's a fiction novel except for the parts that are true.
