G G Collinsabout this book: It's a simple case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Taylor Browning, the mystery editor at Santa Fe's Piñon Publishing, rescues a kitten in a parking garage. There, she witnesses a murder without knowing it—but the murderer sees her. And so begins a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
In this, the second outing for the Taylor Browning Cozy Mysteries series, Taylor goes to a psychic fair to research a New Age mystery they will publish. A palm reader cautions her to be watchful of circles and red. Taylor is further alarmed when a cryptic note from a handwriting analyst warns her she is in jeopardy. Suspicion falls upon the graphologist who has a criminal background.
In the CEO's absence, Virginia Compton, the senior editor, has hired a new business manager. Pandemonium rocks the office when Jessica Endicott returns and reignites her feud with Virginia. Jessica is only marginally competent and plays the staff like chessmen, keeping everyone on edge.
Taylor's friend and colleague, Jim Wells, takes her skiing but someone viciously shoves her down a ski run bringing the excursion to an abrupt end. Happy to be safe at home, Taylor finds her house has been violated and her beloved cats spooked.
The office dynamics seem to equalize when graphic artist, Eric Powers, is hired to work on a special cover for the upcoming metaphysical mystery novel by Crystal Visions.
But Crystal complicates things further by refusing to complete the book. She promises to be a bestselling author with her New Age mysteries, if only Taylor can persuade her to fulfill her contract.
After a gruesome discovery, Taylor leaves New Mexico for Arizona's beautiful Red Rocks country to confront Crystal Visions. Friend and detective, Victor Sanchez, fears for her safety. He believes she will be out of harm's way in Sedona.
Taylor settles in at the author's lush southwestern estate thinking she will have some influence on her working habits. But the elusive author's nocturnal disappearances puzzle Taylor until one evening she follows her and witnesses a bizarre ritual that is shared by many at a New Age symposium.
When she receives an unsettling note in Sedona, Taylor knows the stalker has followed her. She doubts she can count on the quirky Crystal for assistance since she can't seem to get her to concentrate on her writing. She phones Jim in Santa Fe with her worst fears.
Concerned, Detective Sanchez takes leave from his job and travels to Sedona. Victor is frustrated because Taylor refuses to disclose her every move. Even if she finds trouble, he's not sure how much help he'll be with no official capacity in Arizona—and he had to leave his firearm at home. He doubts his presence alone would be enough to stop a murderer intent on killing again.
On her last evening in Sedona, Taylor visits one of the legendary vortexes to see for herself its magical powers. In the long shadows of late afternoon she realizes she is no longer alone. What's worse, she's joined by threatening company.
By the time Detective Sanchez arrives, Taylor is already caught up in a dance of death amid the treacherous Red Rock cliffs.
About the Author & How The Taylor Browning Cozy Mystery Series Came About:
G G Collins once worked for a book publisher, before she walked a reporter's beat. Publishing is a complex industry; at once creative and yet, a business. The myriad of details that have to be accomplished before a book can be published is difficult to comprehend, especially to the author waiting in the wings. Take this experience; add a mystery, a feline companion and a new cozy mystery series is born.
Collins has been cat mom to a dozen kitties, all with their own eccentricities. Somehow, they end up as pets in her books. She also loves and writes about horses.
Collins writes the Taylor Browning Cozy Mysteries (Dead Editor File & Looking Glass Editor) and the Rachel Blackstone Paranormal Mysteries (Reluctant Medium, Lemurian Medium & Atomic Medium). She has written two Young Adult books entitled Flying Change, an equestrian novel, and Without Notice, a teen story about moving on from loss. All are available on Amazon.
