Robyn Beecroftabout this book: Murder of a Straw Man is an English village mystery in the vein of the Miss Marple books, but brought up to date for the 21st Century. A morris dancer has been murdered. Is it an ancient pagan sacrifice? Is it in revenge for his treatment of his transgender daughter. It can't possibly be because he opposed the idea of women dancing, could it? Nervous, antisocial sleuth Rory is drawn into the murky depths of Fenland village life when his friend Haley begs him to exonerate her uncle, falsely accused because he makes a good scapegoat. Before either of them know what they're doing, they're neck deep in a world of bells and hankies, where grudges can be nursed for five hundred years.
I wrote this because I am a morris dancer myself, and I wanted to share some of what makes the hobby so bonkers and yet such great fun. And what could be better than adding murder to the mix?
