Book: When the Carny Comes to Town (Jolie Gentil Cozy Mystery Series Book 3) by Elaine Orrcategories: Book, Jersey Shore, Real Estate Appraisal, Traveling Carnivals, Beach Read, Fourth of July, Amateur Sleuth, Women Sleuths, Cozy Mystery
Elaine Orrabout this book: Carnivals are supposed to be fun, even if you do have to sit on the plank above the dunk tank for the food pantry fundraiser. What is far from fun is having Jolie's best bud Scoobie found under the boardwalk the next morning.
With Scoobie unconscious, and police warning her to let them handle things, Jolie isn't willing to sit on her duff. She joins forces--sometimes--with reporter George Winters. If you've seen them butt heads in prior Jolie Gentil books, you know she's desperate to keep Scoobie safe.
It isn't long before Scoobie's long-absent mother is a guest at Aunt Madge's Cozy Corner B&B. When she vanishes, leaving a suitcase with cash behind, it seems she has more than Scoobie on her mind. And she isn't the only B&B visitor who raises Jolie's hackles.
What can Jolie learn by trailing the carnival to another town? Will Scoobie recover enough to say what happened? If Jolie can't get to the bottom of things, she'll lose someone she treasures.
Note from the author: Carny, as I call it, has the funniest opening scenes of all the books. It also has Aunt Madge front and center for some of the action. Talk about a strong-minded octogenarian!
