Book Review: Corruption Behind Bars - Stories of Crime and Corruption In Our American Prison System by Gary Yorkcategories: Book, Convicted, Behind Bars, True Crime, Escape, Murder, Shank, Contraband, Prison, Guilty, Justice, Correctional Officer, Corruption
Gary Yorkabout this book: This book is about true prison crime and corruption involving correctional officers, prison nurses, other prison staff members and inmates. It describes in detail 41 different prison incidents involving drug smuggling, sex and even murder within our prison walls. It is based on my twelve years of investigating prison crime throughout the state of Florida. These type of incidents occur throughout our country on a daily basis.
I was inspired to write these stories by family and friends who told me the public should be made aware of what really goes on behind our prison walls. My readers have been people curious about prison life as well as students who have used my book for term papers and reports. I also have many readers who have family members who work in prison or have a loved one incarcerated in prison.
I used the title "Corruption behind Bars" because it sends out a clear message about what this book is about. The book cover depicts a male correctional officer offering money or handcuffs to a female inmate, giving her the option of the easy way or the hard way. I would like for my readers to know that I wrote this book to educate and inform as well as entertain. Many of my readers have stated they knew bad things happen in prison, but they did not realize how often and how bad it really is. They also did not know how high the corruption can go. I hope this book makes people realize that we need to do something to make our prisons a more honest place to incarcerate inmates in order to set the example for the inmates and our community.

Enthralling"Enthralling" is the word that best describes how I felt reading Gary's book. I can't wait until his next book comes out, I know he's going to kick it up a notch. I have given this book to my sister, knowing that she will feel the same way I did, and then I know she will pass it on to another avid book reader...Money well spent!! Such a nice escape, losing myself in a good book :D [by Christine Stover]
