about this book: Ready To Burn is the third book in the Due South series, set on a remote New Zealand island called Stewart Island. Shaye Harland is the youngest Harland sibling, and is the only one who hasn't found her Mr. (or Mrs.) Perfect. And Shaye needs to check every box on her quest to find the perfect man for her. Enter Del Westlake, West's younger brother from book 1, back to take the position of head chef at his estranged father's restaurant. He steps all over his new sous chef's toes as SHE wanted the head chef job. Add a reality TV series to the mix, and Del Westlake's bad-boy past and things start heating up in the kitchen.
Del Westlake was one of the most complex male characters I've ever written. The man has a lot of baggage and bitterness he's dragged around with him since his father sent him to live with his mother in LA thirteen years ago, thousands of miles away from his hometown on Stewart Island. I enjoyed exploring the complexities of the relationship between Del and his dad.
New and old characters populate Ready To Burn, along with the small-town feel of the little island town of Oban. Again there are strong themes of family and forgiveness in this book, as well as a romance touching on the importance of acceptance and trust.
