Lynette Sofrasabout this book: For many years I have shopped for an elderly, housebound neighbour. One day, while buying tomatoes a charming old gentleman struck up a brief conversation about the merits of different produce. From this ordinary little incident came the idea for Shopping for Love.
In my story Greg shops out of love for his grandfather, while Emma out of kindness and concern for an elderly neighbour. What could be more natural than for them to fall in love over the tomatoes?
But of course, we all know the path of true love is never straight and simple. Greg, a computer software developer for a major investment bank is a divorced father of two. Although his ex-wife left him, she has not quite let go of him and seems determined to sabotage his new found happiness.
Emma's heart is also vulnerable following the break up with her long-standing boyfriend and when she discovers Greg is the father of one of her young pupils, her professional life also comes under scrutiny.
Greg's life is further complicated by his discovery of corrupt dealings at work, the ailing health of his grandfather and a shocking proposal from Emma's former boyfriend who has now returned to the scene.
In the past I've always focused on my romantic heroines, so with this story I wanted to create a strong, appealing but down to earth hero who faces more than his share of life's challenges to test his endurance. He is realistic but romantic and somehow manages to retain his sense of humour throughout. You can expect a happy ending, but this has a very high price tag for both Greg and Emma.
