Mary Maxieabout this book: Two teachers from an elite school in Phoenix Arizona accidentally find a portal to the past using a piano (that used to belong to the author, and which now lives at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix), They travel to 1943 Nazi Germany, where they find that a German Commandant has allowed Jewish prisoners to form a classical orchestra. As the two time travellers go back and forth from past to present, they try and utilize modern communication systems to warn the Allies about German plans, while sympathizing with the victims of the Nazi terror.
The idea for this book came from the author's granddaughter, who was studying concentration camps in school. That same granddaughter acts as the author's computer guru, book trailer producer, cover artist, as well as current fashionista. The cover shows piano keys intertwined with barbed wire, which is meant to showcase the music as well as the people who were enclosed in he prison camp.
While the book was orignally concieved as an young adult story, I have found that just as many adults as teens enjoy it. The sequel to this book is called Teacher of Time-- Berlin Wall, and the next book in the series will be Teacher of Time-- Cambodia.
