Book: The Boy from Buzby Beach by DW Davis
categories: Book, Young Adult, Single Mom, Estranged Father, First Love, Friendship, Beach Read, Teen Read, Coming of AgeDW Davis

The idea for the names of several of the main characters came from my wife. She suggested that my next book include characters named for our family pets. Jacques, Ginger, Scout, and Joe all got their names that way.
Focusing on the teens flowed naturally from my desire to write for a younger audience; to make The Boy from Buzby Beach a book my own middle grades students could read. That's how the book came to be a story about Jacques, the fifteen-year-old son of a single mom, a mom who owns and operates the only coffee shop on Buzby Island.

• "I was drawn into the story and the lives of all the characters. I felt like I knew exactly what the shops looked like. It is all so real to me." — Elisabeth M.
• "The author has a gentle style that takes his reader into the lives of his characters. This story captured my attention from the first beautifully poetic paragraph." — Brenda P.
