Book: Quit Going to Church by Bob Hostetlercategories: Book, Christianity, Inspiration, Tradition, Bible, New Testament, Jesus, Christian Living, Church
Bob Hostetlerabout this book: Much of how Christians think and act these days--a great percentage of what we do as church-going people--bears only a slight (if any) resemblance to the way of Jesus and ''the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints'' (Jude 1:3). Quit Going to Church is my attempt to peel off the layers of veneer we "church folk" have added to the message and mission of Jesus and get back to the basics, the essentials, the meat of the matter.
With titles like ''Quit Saying Your Prayers'' and ''Quit Sharing Your Faith,'' each chapter issues an eyebrow-raising challenge, showing how many of us have misunderstood--even distorted--the Good News of Jesus and replaced Christianity with something else. It goes on to suggest ways of correcting those departures and distortions.
It might ruffle a few feathers. It may even shatter a few golden calves. I hope so. That's why I wrote it.
• "An astonishing book that is ambitious in its remit, entertaining in its form, and profound in its argument that it's time to quit doing church as we've done it. I am recommending this book to everyone" — Leonard Sweet, author of What Matters Most
• "You will be moved to think, but more importantly, you will be empowered to live a more profound life" — Steve Sjogren, author of The Day I Died
