Judy DuCharme about this book: This story came to me while driving home from a prayer gathering with friends. It was not long before Christmas. I sat down next to our little stairway heater while my husband stoked the fire in our woodstove. He went to bed and I sat and watched this story unfold before me. I loved how the little details dove-tailed into each other. I felt as surprised as Ivy and her family did at the way God provided for them. I don't remember if I wrote the whole first version of it that night or if I finished it in the next few days. Of course, I refined it and enjoyed every minute of it because it showed the great grace God bestows on us. I submitted it to the 2016 Florida Christian Writers Conference contest. It won First Place in Short Story. I then submitted it to Prism Book Group, the publisher for Society of the L.A.M.B. and Run With the Wind. They asked me to double the length, from 5,000 to 10,000 words. I gulped but said "Okay." Because it was a snapshot in the lives of this family, fully occurring on Christmas Day, I needed to expand within, not extend the story. Backstory can be a distraction so I prayed and went to work. I gave the expanded story to friends who read the first one. When I asked what they thought, sure they might say the backstory took away from it, to a person they said, "I enjoyed it just as much on this reading." They didn't notice the expansions, meaning the backstory flowed with the story. I was delighted. Christmas Ivy is now an ebook.
