Kathy Collard Millerabout this book: Do you sometimes feel like you don't really know God? If someone were to ask you, "What is God's nature? Who is He? What is He like?" Or you know you know who God is but at times you aren't able to rely upon the facts you know about Him?
Have you ever asked during a challenging time, "Since I really do believe God is loving, generous, merciful, strong, in control, and everything good, how can I apply that to responding now in a godly, loving manner?"
These ideas are the motivation for us, Larry and Kathy, to write this devotional book. We became fascinated with how God asks questions of people in the Bible and how it seemed He wanted to reveal himself specifically for the benefit of the person he was addressing. To help them with their unique situation.
For instance, why did he ask Adam and Eve, "Where are you?" God knows everything! He knew where they were hiding, but he wanted to reveal He did indeed know where they were. He wanted to call them out of shame and assure them He is loving, forgiving, knows everything, is omnipresent, attentive and caring.
We wanted to share with others what we were learning by examining His questions and that's how this devotional began.
Originally we envisioned 100 devotions from both the Old and New Testaments. But it became too long, so not wanting to cut out what was so very important, we decided to include 40 devotions on God's questions in the Old Testament for the first book. And then a second book of 60 devotions of His questions in the Old Testament through Jesus.
We learned so much about who God is and about our own motivations. And in our research we found out interesting facts and fascinating bits of biblical history that made the Bible come alive even more.
Even though we both wrote this book, it is not a marriage book but we do hope both couples and individuals will use it for their devotional time. We think it could also be appropriate for families to study together and our hope is—it will spark a greater interest in the Bible even among kids in elementary school.
And we loved including little stories of our own journey of walking with Christ. Both of us have been Christians for over five decades. We were married in 1970 and have persevered with God's empowerment over many years of challenges.
We hope our book will inspire, encourage, bless, and motivate you to believe the truths about who God is and that He wants to draw out the motives of your heart—for your good. He loves you!
