J.B. Hawkerabout this book: This fourth book in the First Ladies Club series features a newcomer to the role of pastor's wife. Hope Masterson first appeared in the Tillamook Tillie series. She was a minor figure in "Mrs. Thistlethwaite and the Magpie" as one of the few surviving victims of a serial killer. An independent-minded ex-Marine, Hope found her life changed by her close call and decided to settle down in the charming seaside community of Bannoch, Oregon, home to the First Ladies Club.
Hope appears again in "Mrs. Thistlethwaite and the Whippersnapper" when she helps rescue one of her self-defense students who is trapped in an abusive marriage. This is when she meets Rev. Gideon Hopkins, her future husband.
In "Mrs. Thistlethwaite and a Shadow of Doubt" Hope drops in on Tillie and we learn of her engagement to Gideon.
"Shadows of Hope" begins a few months after her marriage and chronicles the challenges and struggles she has in adapting to her new role as wife of a small town minister. Hope must learn to lean on others and her faith as she copes with her own insecurities and the totally unexpected surprises of her new life.
