Roger E. Brunerabout this book: THE FLOWERS OF HIS FIELD is unusual in a special way. As the fourth and final book in the ALTERED HEARTS series, it's the sequel to OVERSHADOWED. But it's also the sequel to ROSA NO-NAME, the prequel to the whole series.
Kim Hartlinger has wanted to return to the little Mexican village of Santa Maria ever since her mission trip there two years earlier. But when her dad (Scott) and their friend Rob White both receive mysterious phone calls claiming that Kim's friend Rosa needs help, they head for Mexico despite their unanswered questions about what's wrong. Rob brings two of his construction helpers, both of whom Kim knows.
As thrilled as Rosa is to see Kim and Rob again and to meet Scott, she has a question of her own. Why have the five Americans come? She didn't send for them, she doesn't need their help, and she's confident God will solve her problem.
When Rosa learns how severe her problem really is, however, she realizes how badly she needs her American friends. No matter how strong her faith is, seeking God's leading and His solution is a challenge unlike anything Rosa and Kim have ever faced.
Although the answer turns out to be amazingly simple in theory, implementing it is exceedingly challenging.
As if helping Rosa isn't enough of a challenge, Kim finds herself once more attracted to Rob's nephew Geoff, who had given her a lot of trouble two years earlier. But he repented and turned his life back over to God. After doing an amazing one-eighty, romance with Kim has a second chance now. But will it prevent Kim and Geoff from doing what they need to do to help Rosa?
Could there be additional romance in the air? I'm not telling!
The title refers to the fact that the villagers of Santa Maria are the "flowers of God's field"--that is, He will provide for their needs. But it has an important secondary meaning you'll have to read the book to discover.
THE FLOWERS OF HIS FIELD is filled with fascinating characters and unexpected twists and turns. Although it can be read as a stand-alone novel, the reader who's familiar with the previous ALTERED HEARTS books will appreciate and enjoy it even more.
