Lee Carverabout this book: Ashley's husband preferred pornography to the benefits of marriage. Then, as a college professor, he seduced his freshman student. His lover became pregnant with the child he insisted to his wife that he wasn't ready for. Betrayed and dumped, Ashley ran to her grandmother's home in Texas, ostensibly to be a care giver through "Mama Lou's" breast cancer chemo. Determined to hurt her husband and his lover by withholding on divorce, she learned that her murder would be much quicker than divorce.
Good Christian girls have such faith in the concept of a happy marriage that they may not examine their life's choice critically enough. This book was inspired by three unhappy marriages in my close family. The heavy subjects were lightened by humor, especially featuring a fine white cross-breed pig named Beulah.
Ashley's friendship with a Texas rancher--who also works as a roofer to pay off his deceased father's debt--adds the sparkle of romance. The author's wish is that all women eventually find a good man and a happily ever after marriage.
