Brad Francisabout this book: I love the Harry Potter books, and so do my kids. I think they are wonderfully imaginative and that JK Rowling is a master storyteller. I wondered if I could write a Christian novel that could capture the imagination of readers with a fantastical, magical story in anywhere near the same way that Harry Potter has inspired so many. I don't claim to have completely succeeded, but Emaline's Gift, the first book of The Magi Chronicles, is the beginning of my attempt.
What Emaline's Gift presents is an exciting version of the real world with a war that has been waging between two magical armies for two thousand years: the Christ-following magi and the cruel obeah. Our entrance to this world is provided by thirteen-year-old Emaline, who is simply running an errand for her Mom when she suddenly gets plunged into a dangerous game and discovers abilities that she had no clue she possessed. Emaline's world is turned upside down one incredible night, but then it's over, and she's back to the real world. Just when she begins to wonder if it was all a dream, she is kidnapped by the obeah—and it's up to the magi to come to the rescue!
This book is recommended for readers 12 and up, but one of my first readers was my 7-year-old daughter and she loves the book!
