Author Wendy Leighton-Porterabout this book: This is the fourth adventure in the Shadows from the Past time-travel series for Middle Grade readers.

The golden death mask of Tutankhamun is an iconic image that comes instantly to mind when you think of Ancient Egypt. The feeling of awe when Howard Carter opened up the boy king's tomb to reveal its incredible treasures still resonates today. The wonder of Egypt – the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Nile, the temples, the mysterious but beautiful hieroglyphic inscriptions, the vivid colours of the wall paintings, and the tangible sense of history that pervades the whole country – continues to fascinate us. And so, on the next step of my young time-travellers' journey, I just had to send them to Ancient Egypt and, more specifically, to the court of Tutankhamun himself.

The death of the young king is shrouded in mystery and there has always been speculation that it might not have been due to natural causes. So, with a possible murder mystery providing a backdrop to this adventure, intrigue and evil await my youngsters as they set off into the past. Can they foil an assassination plot without putting their own lives at risk?

Meanwhile, the thread of the side story running through the series goes on, as the twins, Jemima and Joe Lancelot, continue the search for their parents who are missing somewhere in the pages of history, following a bungled time-travel excursion of their own? Will the children find them in Ancient Egypt? Perhaps, perhaps not…

"The book was filled with history, interesting characters, and humorous incidents that kept me laughing. I also am ashamed to admit that I cried when they cried. I felt so connected to the characters; I felt their triumphs and their losses… This is another awesome read from Wendy Leighton-Porter." READERS' FAVORITE BOOK REVIEWS
