Wendy Leighton-Porterabout this book: Book number 7 in the Shadows from the Past time-travel series visits a landmark event in English history. Battles, outlaws, famous figures, dragons and phantom hounds make this an action-packed adventure.
The series has now moved forward in time to 1066 and we enter a pivotal moment in English and European history, when the Battle of Hastings is nigh and the future of England lies at stake. Here, in this truly dangerous adventure, we see a genuine opportunity for my young heroes to change the course of history.
Still searching for the twins' parents who are lost somewhere in the mists of time, my time-travelling youngsters face some nail-biting encounters during a period of history that is well-known to all English schoolchildren. Their quest may not be over yet – there are many more adventures still to come – but the kids learn a great deal about human nature, about pulling together and doing the right thing, even when the going gets really tough.
In addition to a story packed with historical facts, I have blended snippets of legend and a hefty dose of fiction, tweaking true events to add to the excitement and the "What ifs?". One of my goals is to bring history to life, making it real for my young readers. It's important for them to learn how cruel life could be back then, and so I don't shy away from describing the tough decisions people had to make, the hardships they faced, and the brutality of warfare. Those things are still relevant today.
To lighten the atmosphere in a story that deals with some potentially gruesome events, I did not forget the Max factor – and no, I'm not talking about cosmetics! Guaranteed to bring an element of humour to most situations, my lovable feline hero shines yet again. Max is growing in stature with each passing story – it won't be long before he takes centre stage and hogs the limelight altogether!
"As always I was charmed by the storyline and the learning experience of the children along the way, and it's safe to say that history has come alive yet again in this fantastic addition to the series." – K. C. FINN, YA author
"Get ready for another extraordinary time-traveling journey in Shadow of The Norman Arrow… Digging deep into English history, myths, and legends, the Shadows From The Past Series is more than just a great succession of exciting stories; they are super educational!" – READERS' FAVORITE BOOK REVIEWS
