about this book: This novella, the 9th book in the Shadows from the Past time-travel series for Middle Grade readers, is the second solo adventure for Max the talking Tonkinese cat. Max's Christmas Adventure is, however, a Christmas story with a difference… because it doesn't actually take place at Christmas, although it does feature a very important Christmas figure who will be familiar to all!

When Max is awoken by strange noises coming from the roof one night, he goes out to investigate and is perturbed to see a sleigh and reindeer on top of the house… and then he spots the man in the red suit. A little confused to begin with, because he once saw the twins' father disguised as Santa one Christmas Eve, Max thinks that the missing James Lancelot has returned. But no, this isn't the twins' dad – it's the real deal, none other than Father Christmas himself.

Once Santa explains why he's there, together they embark on a quest of great importance, a whirlwind trip into the past to look for something very precious to Jemima and Joe Lancelot – their missing parents. Along the way, their search reveals tantalising clues to the mystery and also to the rest of the books that are still to come in the rest of the Shadows from the Past series. The tale ends with a mysterious surprise for the twins.

I wrote this initially when I was invited to contribute to an anthology of Christmas short stories. I soon realised, however, that it would fit in perfectly with my series and would further enhance the character of Max, giving him another opportunity to show us what he's made of. He doesn't disappoint!
