Robyn Collinsabout this book: The 'Secret of the Niello' is the second, and last, of the two books in my Niello Necklace Mystery Series. When I wrote these two books my aim was to write something for children that was exciting, fast moving and 'issues' free. I guess I was influenced from all the years of Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys in my youth. I really admire authors who write wonderful books for children and young adults that help them deal with the issues that make life very difficult for some children. I didn't want this, however. I wanted my books to be fun, a bit scary and to have children on the edge of their seats. I wanted them to identify with students who were resilient, brave and determined and who had good friends to see them through the hard times.
One of the hardest things about writing the book was to give just enough clues so that readers were thinking about what might happen next but not so many clues that there were no surprises at the end. Writing is so much fun that I would do it with or without readers, but when someone reads your book and likes it I feel totally privileged and overcome with the joy of what I do.
