Ben Woodardabout this book: One Sunday after taking my granddaughter to the donut shop, she asked me, a storyteller, to tell a story about a girl who turned into a donut. Whoa, that was tough, but I did it and this book is the result. The book is illustrated and picture book length, but it is more than that. It has a graphic novel feel that will appeal to older children. The younger kids will like the fun text while adults and older children will be drawn to the clever illustrations and hidden features. The book has over 40 illustrations, a word search, and donut jokes. And the print version can be coloring book. Fun for all ages.
Elizabeth loves donuts—maybe too much. When her Dad says, “No donuts today,” she pouts, smells the donuts next door, and sneaks in the donut shop. There she sees hundreds of donuts…whizzing by. Every kind she could imagine. And Elizabeth had to have one. But when she has MORE than one, strange and hilarious things happen.
I hope it inspires children and adults to use their imaginations and come up with ways to continue the story.
