Kathleen J. Shieldsabout this book: Who is afraid of falling? Chatterton Squirrel is! His parents are teaching Chatterton and his siblings how to jump from tree to tree but Chatterton is so afraid to make the jump because when he looks down and sees how far it is to the ground, he freezes. His parents encourage him but Chatterton decides he can get to the other tree without jumping; he goes down the trunk of the one he is in, runs across the ground and then climbs up the next tree. But this is not how it is done, his parents explain. There are dangers on the ground.
Hamilton Troll had been watching them this whole time and comes up with a plan so Chatterton can practice without the fear of falling and when he is ready he is able to make the big leap successfully. This story is about facing your fears and practicing. It also teaches children that everyone needs to learn, including squirrels and not to give up if the task seems to hard.
The Hamilton Troll Adventures are fully-illustrated rhyming stories for ages 4 and up. They are educational as well as inspirational, containing vocabulary words and definitions. These stories make excellent bedtime stories and are educational enough for 1st and 2nd graders. There is teacher curriculum and printables to go along with the series; including math, language arts, and even drawing.
