Ian Kayeabout this book: The second book in the series continues with life on the beach. Faced with the prospect of a drought The Shellies attempt to find ways to store water. Again it is Crabby who takes charge and explains how the power of the sea's waves can be used. A simple walk along the beach and observing waves provided the idea.
I have attempted to develop the characters of each Shellie. Along with a new meaning for www (Wave Water Wheel)a simple land yacht is invented.
Humour, creativity and adventure have once more been my guides.
It was not until the last page of the book that I decided on the title, Rainbow's wishes seemed to fit the story perfectly.
The easiest part of the whole process and the most pleasurable was walking aloing the beach. Who could not be inspired by such a setting?
I hope this book will appeal to both adults and children. In another career I was constantly told that 'there is no such thing as good drafting, just good re-drafting!' the same is true with writing The Shellies stories. I must have written and rewritten them 8 or more times, always attempting to add someting extra or to develop a 'leitmotif' for the characters.
what to read next: if you read and liked this book...
