I was inspired to write Lionel's Christmas Adventure because I have seen first hand the difficulty some folks have around the holidays. Giving can be very difficult if you have little to give. In this day and age of excess and big box stores opening on Thanksgiving to get ahead of the competition (what about the minimum wage employee that has to leave their family on Thanksgiving day?) to hoards of consumers fighting each other for the black Friday "deals", I thought it was important to show the stress of Christmas through a child's eyes. 12 year old Lionel has tunnel vision. He only wants a sled and loses focus on everything else. Throughout the story he begins to see things through others eyes. He realizes that sometimes the easiest-- and the hardest- things to give are gifts that don't cost anything. It's a story that puts a bit of a different spin on the "true meaning of Christmas" idea. I, for one, believe children and adults will enjoy the book and the message it delivers.
Lionel's Christmas Adventure: Lionel Learns the True Meaning of Christmas is the 3rd book in the Lionel's Grand Adventure series. The books are beginning chapter books geared towards ages 6-10. The combination of magic, fantasy, humor and a loveable main character most can relate may be perfect for young readers, or family story time.
