Robert F. Lyonsabout this book: My own dog, Arrow, was the inspiration for "Polar Dog". I rescued him from the local shelter, it was love at first sight for both of us. A big hunk of dog he reminded me of a polar bear with his coat as white as snow. He was a constant source of entertainment, for instance on hot days here in sunny southern California he would cool himself by laying down in a shady spot at the edge of the pool and hanging his long tail in the water – never saw a dog do that before or since.
My career as a professional actor keeps me very busy but thinking about Arrow I found myself wishing I could share the joy I've had with him with the rest of the world. Since he died I've been haunted by all the wonderful times we had together and the idea of the story, Polar Dog, came to me. Polar Dog is my first venture into writing children's books and the positive reader responses I'm getting make me glad I took the step.
