Today's youth need to develop a comprehension of United States history and how its government operates. To develop critical thinking skills, they must be taught how to evaluate primary sources and separate real facts that are free from bias and prejudice. If our youth are to become effective leaders of tomorrow, they must first become well-educated citizens. The common core emphasis on literacy and math skills has resulted in the neglect of civics and history.
My hope is that reading Little Miss HISTORY Travels to INDEPENDENCE HALL and The Museum of the American Revolution will be the first step in addressing this problem. As Little Miss HISTORY tells us, "If you don't know your history, you don't know what you're talking about."
