Kristi Nielsenabout this book: Author Kristi Nielsen had a pet goat named Patches when she was nine years old. This story is inspired by her experiences with goat ownership. There is no predicting the trouble a pet goat can cause. The antics of a goat will always bring suspense and surprise.
Patches, grew from a baby to a curious and hungry goat. He explores the neighborhood and has to be rescued by the Fire Department and then by Animal Control. He serves his time out but seems to never learn.
Although the adventures of Patches in the story are not the same as the adventures of the author's childhood pet, they are equivalent. The author has brought the goat into this century and brought him to life in the community where the author and her young grandchildren live.
Despite the trouble he causes, he is much loved by the young girl who owns him. When she receives a time out for throwing her soccer ball in the house and breaking a vase, she wants to serve her time out with Patches, in the shed.
The illustrations bring the story to life and tickle a child's sense of humour.
