Book: Enthusiastic Annabel - When Making Cakes Is so Much Fun, It's Impossible to Stop at One! by Elise Lowecategories: Book, Cake, Waste, Sharing, Armadillo, Desert, Chocolate, Grandma, Family, Children's Book
Elise Loweabout this book: "Enthusiastic Annabel" is a story about a very excitable, young armadillo, who gets easily carried away. This is exactly what happens when Annabel's grandma teaches her how to make chocolate biscuit cake; she makes far more than he family can ever hope to eat and has to find a way to ensure no cake goes to waste.
I set the book in the desert, which made it particularly fun to write - I loved the idea of melting the chocolate for the cake in the sun, instead of heating it over the stove. I also enjoyed making the armadillos jump up and down on the biscuits to crush them. Chocolate biscuit cake was the perfect recipe to work with for the story.
The story was inspired by my son, who is also very enthusiastic and loves baking with his grandma.
The book was illustrated by Julian Thomas, who also illustrated "Paddy and his Disappearing Daddy." It was great to be able to work with Julian again as he also seems to draw the image I have in my head (only better).
