Leslie Williamsabout this book: Tim is a kid who likes to fish. Drowning some bait is his idea of a good afternoon. Then he catches something he hadn't expected….
The shark with no teeth is a story for different ages. For children 0 to three years of age, it is about naming things, contrasts, and rewards for doing good.
For kids 4 to 8 years, it's about stereotypes, as well as the concepts of mercy and kindness. It's about choices: catch or release, vegetarian versus carnivore. And it's about reciprocation, making a trade.
For all ages, it illustrates spending time with a pet…then keeping it fed and happy.
I got the ideas for this story from fifty years of camping and fishing with my family in Texas' Angelina National Forest. Some of my happiest moments have been spent angling off a lakeshore or reading by the campfire.
This book is a companion to "The Story About the Dragon," which is a fairy tale about bullying. The drawings for both were inspired by Cartoons like "Peanuts" and "The Wizard of Id," as well as the simple art of Munro Leaf's books, "Manners Can Be Fun" and "Safety Can Be Fun."
