Aviva Gittle

Author Aviva Gittleabout this book: "Kitten & Koi" is the second story in the "Kitten and Friends" series. Back in 2013, I wrote the first story, "Kitten & Butterfly." I did not have a series planned -- I just started getting more ideas for the different animals that Kitten could meet. The point of the first story was to help adults teach their children not to discriminate against those who look and live differently. To try to reach out and make friends. Even when it's challenging to do so. A kitten and a fish trying to play together would take patience and creativity. Why Koi? My mother, who passed in 2006, used to have a pond filled with them.

Now I knew I had a series, which meant I needed the books to have connections, but each story also needed to stand on its own. My inspiration for the tone of the books was Winnie the Pooh. Generally calm and serene with moments of hilarity between the animals. A farm was a natural setting where Kitten could meet many other creatures. In every story, Kitten meets someone new, they struggle to find a way to play together, they learn about each other in the process, they discover a unique way to do so and become fast friends.

Children learn something about Kitten and his new friend in every book. Koi has some interesting eating habits, for example. Kitten, at Koi's urging, challenges his assumption that he won't enjoy getting splashed with water -- with results you would expect from a cat.

"Kitten & Koi" earned a 5-star rating from Readers' Favorite. My favorite review is from an Amazon customer who gave the book 5-stars. She says simply, "CHILDREN ENJOYED IT" (All caps; no punctuation.) That's really all you need to know. :-)
