Sue Wicksteadabout this book: Jay-Jay is no ordinary bus nor is the journey he will take you on.
You don't sit down and travel on this bus; it comes to you full of toys, games and things to do.
The bus character Jay-Jay is based on a real Playbus, JJK261, it was unique and much loved. It was one of the first vehicles of its kind and led to many other play projects copying the idea. The original bus has a photographic history book of its own which prompted lots of questions and comments from children, and this led to the first story book. Both children and adults alike loved knowing what a Playbus was and what it could do.
With bright and colorful eye-catching pictures painted on the outside children see him arrive and know he is different to any other bus. They run enthusiastically to explore and find out how he is different and what there is for them to play with.
Having read the first book to children in many schools, they loved hearing the story and asked if Jay-Jay would ever go on any more adventures, this led to further book ideas and stories.
This second story, about Jay-Jay, is based on a real bus which did visit the Shetland Islands in Scotland where it traveled on a very small ferry to get there.
The book is aimed at children of primary school age.
It is suitable in schools with a topic project about 'Transport'.
With worksheets and ideas to support the book, Jay-Jay can support learning across the curriculum.
