Book: Billy Wants It All - Money (Billy Growing Up, Volume 7) by James Mintercategories: Book, Greed, Must Have It, Spending, Pocket Money, Peer Pressure, Fashion, Manage Money, Children's Book
James Minterabout this book: Children, often driven by peer-pressure, want the latest toys, electronic goods, and fashionable clothes, but have little understanding of the value of money or where it comes from; essential knowledge for later years.
In this story, Billy wants a new skateboard and games controller, but doesn't understand why his parents don't just buy them for him. After all, he doesn't pay anything towards other household costs, so why does he have to contribute towards his toys? His mum and dad are presented with some large and unexpected household bills, but once Billy understands the challenges his parent's face, it makes him respect them more, and understand how much they work to invest in their family. However, the most important lesson he learns is that these things don't appear out of thin air. Someone has to exchange their services – work at a job – in order to earn the money to purchase the goods. Billy's Granddad helps him learn these lessons.
