Alan Richesabout this book: After the London Olympics 2012 an Inspiration for a children's book came to me. What about writing a story involving various animal competing against each other in a very secret place tucked away in the forest.
Only animals would be able to attend and maybe complete.
Big Grandad and his family of mice including his two Grandsons manage to acquire tickets to the event. Unknown to the two little mice they will be taking part in at least one event.
Various events including the 'Obstacle flying race'. Tree climbing race including a surprise competitor. The event also includes every year a special event in the interval. The event concludes as it does every year with the all in 'Tug-o-war' involving competitors and supporters. But this year with an added twist.
The story was originally only for my two grandsons. But many people said to me it was too good to keep away from other children. I was eventually persuaded to publish the book and went through the self publishing route via AuthorHouse.com
The story took approximately six months to write. The illustrations were drawn by my partner Susan Newman. A little research was required for the speed flying race and the birds and insects involved are apparently accurate.
I have learnt a great deal from writing my first book and It has inspired me to write more. I am at present writing a series of short stories but this time I not catering for the children's market this time.
Depending on how well this book goes will depend on wether I write the sequel. (I do have some great ideas for it)
I have really loved the adventure of writing and having my first book published and actually being known as a published author. I want to attract a large audience of children to read it. It will also be shown at the five biggest book fairs in the world this year and that makes me feel so proud.
