about this book: Status: How do you work this thing??!Relationship status: It's complicated
Selfie Girl is about the adventures of Helen, a social media virgin who suddenly decides to have an online presence. This results in everything going incredibly wrong much to the amusement of the people around her. Helen gets stalked, scammed, fraped etc. but also makes discoveries which lead her to meet her love interest Ryan. As the story unfolds she is able to use social media to her advantage in hilarious ways.
Every chapter starts with Helen's new status.
It is a highly enjoyable story which shows a very modern take on real life through social media. I started this novel in 2007 when I first saw many problems happen when people had little knowledge of privacy settings on Facebook. Involuntary tagging at a stag-do for example can have many unforeseen consequences. Then I gathered together many other real life stories to put together in this well crafted novel.
I chose the cover as it is simple, eye-catching and modern.
Here is one of my reviews written by another author:
"If you're a fan of the Helen Fielding series you'll love SELFIE GIRL. Helen McEverett is a young, dizzy heroine, newly addicted to social media. The problem is she's a Facebook virgin and quickly falls foul of a psycho stalker, a Nigerian scammer and a so-called friend who frapes her profile. Helen is forced to place her complicated love life on hold as she seeks retribution from all those who have wronged her. Imagine Bridget Jones on steroids and you get the picture. The style of writing is fresh, sparkling and totally in touch with the contemporary world. Watch out for the movie."
