Tricia McGillabout this book: When I wrote Remnants of Dreams a long time ago, it was mostly fiction based on my mother's life. She lived through two world wars in a war-torn London, bringing up a large family in near poverty. Crying is for Babies is similar in that it features my family, but whereas Remnants was mostly fiction; this one is a factual account of the life of one of my sisters. As an eight-year-old tomboy who loved to dance and spend time at the local park on the swings, a minor accident altered her life drastically and in a way that was to see her undergoing surgery and ongoing pain for the rest of her life. Forced to lie in bed for a long painful three years, which left her with a disability, she nevertheless went on to become a talented painter and musician, and a person loved by all who knew her. Never did she complain about the rough deal she had been dealt, and in fact few people knew of her never-ending pain except those of us close to her. I encouraged her to write her life story down which she did some years ago. But, as she was the first to admit, she was not the writer in the family, so entrusted me to tell it. I hope my admiration and love shines through, and I did her justice with my version.
