Book: There's Fungus on the Mushrooms - or if something can go wrong it will .... by Mike Lordcategories: Book, Travelling, Africa, Asia, Farmers, Villages, Fish Ponds, Paddy Fields, Upland Crops, Forestry, Autobiography
BUTTERFLY BOOKSabout this book: Mike Lord has been working & living in Africa and Asia, so that sometimes Mike wonders how he managed to survive all these years working in some of the world’s hot spots, or in some cases hot spots just after he left!
This autobiography traces his life and travelling from the Home Counties in England to Singapore and Hong Kong as a child; Nigeria with his wife and children, and later to Libya, Ethiopia, Botswana and Kenya.
The vast majority of Mike's work over the years was with smallholder farmers - at first with the farmers and their families, but much more effectively with the qualified government officers who were tasked with repeating Mike's work with other farmers groups and often remote villages.
One innovation was the creation of Farmer Field Schools, and maybe several in one village for different crops and activities, so that farmers could work together effectively and in smaller groups as opposed to the entire village.
Mike continued his work from Africa to Asia, in the Swat valley in Pakistan, North West province in Sri Lanka, and later in Vietnam.
Mike has now retired and lives in a provincial city with his wife, children and even grandchildren in Vietnam.
Apart from writing eBooks himself, he has a rooftop garden which occupies a lot of his time with direct sun and high temperatures in the summer, and relative cooler conditions in the winter months.
