Raymond Boyd Dunnabout this book: An Australian Ranch (formerly Budgere) is the sequel to Palmer Gold, and is the second book in the Pearson/Rickards Trilogy.
The friends who shared the adventures up on the Palmer River have purchased adjoining properties on the Darling Downs in South Queensland. The story traces their experiences on the land and describes the highs and lows of life on the land in the late nineteenth century. There is romance, there are murders, and there is tragedy.
After completing "Palmer Gold", the author's enthusiasm for writing compelled him to carry on with the story. He located it in the Dalby/Jimbour area where he spent thirty years of his life, and was familiar with the region. The depictions of the properties and the area in general are, to the best of his ability, descriptions of the actual locality in which the story takes place. Although the main characters are fictitious, there are many people included who actually lived there at the time. He believes he treated them fairly in his account of their actions.
