Ellie Croweabout this book: Cool new adventure series for MG and YA readers - I love dark, swampy places with alligators and bad guys. I also would really love to help endangered animals, and bring attention to their fate. I'm sure you would too.
In LOST IN THE WILD four teens are lost in the Florida Everglades, a dangerous place to be. When they come across a gang of poachers, they want to save the endangered animals. But can they even save themselves? There is a lot of exciting action in this book. And the basis for the story is real. Miami is a main port used by animal poachers to bring endangered species into the United States. Baby Furball, the little Orangutan in the story, is one of those beautiful endangered animals threatened by poachers.
Florida's fascinating Everglades is an endangered place. Many animals there are also endangered, like the very rare Florida Cheetah. A visit there opens a world of huge alligators, strange birds, spooky dark water and jungle. I hope this book takes you there and I hope you visit there yourself one day soon. I'm trying to work up the courage to head out in the backwaters in a canoe - its the thought of the 13-foot-long alligators that's somewhat daunting. If you've done that, I'd love to hear from you. -- happy reading -- Ellie Crowe
