Andres Mannabout this book: In this latest book of the series, Tess's stepdaughter Aara takes center stage. She is just about to have her 18th birthday and has a good plan for her life: Graduate from Julliard and become a concert pianist. Her world is upended by a huge inheritance that she will receive from her father, General Amir al-Saadi, Tess's nemesis. A condition states that Aara needs to marry into a Muslim family within a year.
Tess and Jake need to overcome their prejudices to at least explore the matter. Their main concern is the welfare of Aara, who was central to Tess's struggles with Amir in the past. They meet two Muslim families and explore the feasibility of marriage. Unfortunately, Amir's sister Fadime has joined forces with another of Tess's foes, the corrupt and decadent ex-financier turned human trafficker Laurent Belcour, with whom Tess and her Valkyries had many conflicts. Fadime and Laurent crave the fortune for themselves and initiate a fiendishly clever stratagem to take control of the fortune that is meant for Aara.
Tess and Jake take Aara to Istanbul to meet a prospective family and Aara meets a charming young man that she is intended to marry. Tess, Aara and the Valkyries musical group take this opportunity to play several concerts benefitting Tess's Human Trafficking project. Concurrently, Tess guides Aara to help her hone her skills on the piano, obliquely guiding her to expand her repertoire. As they try to deal with their issues, Laurent schemes in the background to get his revenge from past interactions where Tess foiled his evil plans.
Personal issues get in the way. The beautiful Claudine has a surprise for Jake, and Tess needs to overcome her attraction to the dynamic conductor Vaughn Wentworth. These issues reach a climax in a series of dramatic actions typical of Tess's adventures.
