about this book: Once he was the world's greatest whitewater kayaker. But after the complacency of marriage and his winning fight against cancer, Wade Jones is a broken down has-been. Lured into one last summer in Colorado on the wild Arkansas River, he joins up with the River Rats, hard-drinking, fun-loving hardcore whitewater enthusiasts. Wade's will, mettle and honesty as a husband are tested when an old girlfriend, Victoria Paley, arrives on the river with her beauty, power and the smell of money to change things. She wants to steal him away from his wife, using the wild river as an asset. Who wins?
The river in my book is in my Colorado backyard. I wanted to write a romance and adventure story with the challenges of kayaking as a backdrop, testing a modern day American marriage to its limits. This book is for adventurers, couch potatoes and romantics. The cover depicts a snarling snakelike river as a metaphor. Hundreds of pages of research and interviews fleshed out the story.
