Book: Make MIS-TAKES for Better Grades - A 15-Week Self Correction Program by Dr. Robert D. Kirkcategories: Book, Reading Speed, Attention Span, Grades, Follow Directions, Make Mistakes, ADHD
Dr. Robert D. Kirkabout this book: The Self Correction Program (c) I developed over 40 years ago is for parents and grandparents who want to help their student improve following directions, increase attention spans, cope with making mis-takes (c), increase reading rate and improve grades.
We are taught when we are very young to strive for perfection, an impossible task. In new learning, we all make mis-takes. When we do, we get angry at making mis-takes, and fearful of making more mis-takes in the future.
The SCP program allows a 20% margin for making mis-takes as the student reads aloud to their parents/grandparents. This reduces the anger and fear which encourages feeling better about making mis-takes. The result, in a very short period of time (5 weeks for the Jump Start Program), the student is more relaxed, is reading faster, is more attentive and grades are improving. Parents/grandparents also notice changes at home.
This program is intense and very effective. It was researched and tested at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.
