Thea Atkinson

Author Thea Atkinsonabout this book: The character in Anomaly is what drove me to write the novel. As many of my readers know, I write my mainstream novels a bit dark, and when J introduced himself (herself?) to me, I had to follow the story to the end: the good, the bad, and the downright ugly of all of it.

Anomaly defies genre description for me. It isn't mainstream or pulp or chicklit or urban fiction. It's not psychological thriller and it's definitely not romance. But it does have all of those elements in them.

I think what many people find concerning--and thus hesitate to give Anomaly a chance--is that it has a transgender character as it's hero(ine). They think they won't be interested because they have predisposed beliefs about what trans is and what it might mean. But it's not a book about transgenderism--it just happens to have a character who doesn't know what label to put on himself. If I had to describe the theme of Anomaly, I'd have to say it's about prejudice and bias and just plain finding a way to love yourself when you think you're unloveable.

Not so different from the ordinary story, really. But it is an Anomaly--just like its main character.

Give J a chance. It costs nothing to open the sample and try it on. I think you'll come to like J as well as I do.
