BUTTERFLY BOOKSabout this book: This manuscript was probably written in about 1960. Harry Norton, the author, lived and loved Africa all his life. He only left Africa as part of the RRAF bomber command in 1939 just before the World War 2. He was deemed too old to fly and was transferred to Cairo as part of "Intelligence". The trouble is be never spoke much about the War, and never about his work in Cairo. He died in England in 1990, then aged 87, and this manuscript was found about 40 years later!
The story is about a young and recently qualified veterinary surgeon who inherited a ranch in Rhodesia after his father died.
The land was inundated with problems - bush fires, cattle poisoning and rustling, disease outbreaks, and even attempted murder, which he had to battle with the help of the local police and his ranch workers. This was complicated as his two younger sisters and their physiotherapy friend joined him at the ranch, and he was concerned about their security.
It took some time for him to understand that most of these problems had been manifested from an outside source, and a foreign organisation were more interested in the mineral contents under the surface of the land, not the cattle.
There is romance apart from skulduggery and a surprising twist in the plot at the end! Please read and comment either as a posted review or directly to Butterfly Books.
