G.G. Silvermanabout this book: Hi! Thanks for taking some time to learn more about my book! Conceptually, it's a mashup of some of my fave funny things from pop culture: "Daria", "Mean Girls", and "Shaun of the Dead". Think snarky commentary with fun physical comedy, as well as plenty of thrills and chills.
This is also a Girl Power book. I wrote it as a response to Hollywood media, where it seems that women and girls almost always end up having to get saved by their men, but I wanted to turn the tables, letting the girls have a chance to save their boys for a change. The book also talks about bullying and difficult female friendships, and shows girls overcoming their differences to survive. The main character, Clarissa, is a person of extremes (she purposely spells "women" as "womyn"—an alternative feminist spelling) but she eventually realizes that her rigid belief systems might be holding her back, keeping her from experiencing true friendship. But in the end, she softens and opens her heart to others. Her best friend Cokie is a key person who helps her change. Cokie was modeled after an experience I had—when I was bullied, I developed a stutter, but it eventually went away when I was no longer around mean people and got my confidence back. (Please note, though, the book has some swears and violence, but it's the zombie apocalypse, so, there's that.)
I really hope you enjoy the book!
